Spend a full day with Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Essdras M Suarez as he shares his extensive knowledge of how to create strong, memorable images. The day combines classroom instruction (at Summit venue) and hands-on shooting (at nearby University of Delaware campus). This program includes a review of student photos. In this intimate workshop setting, Essdras explores what he means by “sophisticated images”—images that are well composed, full of information and (often) offering a fresh viewpoint. Capturing a decisive moment within the composition may come into play, too. Sophisticated images make the viewer’s eye bounce around within the frame, gathering information, sensing interplay of elements, reacting on multiple levels. Viewers spend more time looking than they do with simpler visuals. Essdras makes you more self-aware about what you are doing with the camera, which not only enhances your vision but gives you a greater appreciation of what makes for a good photo. Some specific subjects covered: composition, juxtaposition and layering of elements, and points of visual entry. When it comes to candid people photography, Essdras helps you to anticipate decisive moments by carefully reading body language and human interactions. This is a rare chance to get into the mind of a true master photographer.
