We spend our entire lives looking at video but few of us have ever created one. With still cameras now having the capacity to produce high quality video and with digital video camcorders getting more compact and easier to use, everyone can become a videographer. This introductory course will demystify the video world; it's a world we think you'll find exciting. We cover the basic building blocks that will enable you to produce a video clip for the web, a family documentary history, a "film" on a subject that interests you…and so on. The basics include:

  • Camera operation
  • Camera support
  • Basic shooting techniques + a few tricks
  • Basic lighting
  • Shooting to edit
  • Basic editing techniques
  • Understanding different file formats
  • Downloading to the computer
  • Outputting to DVD and the Web

After initial instruction, students will have several hours to shoot footage in historic Chesapeake City, edit what they've done, and then have it critiqued.
