Howard's career in photography has spanned more than three decades. He is the author of more than one hundred articles on photography techniques, and has been an editor at Modern Photography, eDigitalPhoto and, currently, Shutterbug. His photo credits include top consumer and photo magazines, newspapers, books, galleries, ad agencies, and corporations. He has received numerous national awards for his photography. He has taught photography specifically for the New York Botanical Garden and, in addition, he teaches workshops in the US and Europe.
