Steve Gottlieb has photographed people for coffee table books, advertising campaigns, annual reports, editorial publications, and his own family albums. His work has ranged from small kids to CEOs, from local politicians to U.S. Presidents, from individuals to large groups. He has worked in the studio and (mostly) on location, using both available and artificial light. Whoever the person and whatever the circumstances, his objective is to make his subjects look natural and real and, wherever possible, to integrate them in a meaningful way with their environment. Steve is the photographer (as well as author and designer) of American Icons, Washington: Portrait of a City and Abandoned America, which was selected by both People Magazine and USA Today as a "2002 Gift Book of the Year." Steve has been designated as one of a half-dozen "Kodak Professional Icons" in the U.S. Steve is Horizon's founder and director. In addition, he leads workshops to promote innovation and team-building in organizations. (see www.visionmining.biz)

"The Cecil County Fair was great. So were the day's end critiques. I wish we had more time." - Rudy M. (ramiller @ lifebridgehealth.org)

"Nice, like-minded people, well qualified and engaging instructor, fun learning experience." - Jeff F (Follweiler @ comcast.net)

"I learned that you can convince people that they are special so they are more inclined to have their picture taken." - Ryan F. (Follweilerr @ etown.edu)

"Fun. Went too quick. Critique time was informative." - Kelly F. (toddfrazier @ verizon.net)

"Steve does a nice job relating my questions with his stories. I learned some "key verbal cues" to use to approach strangers." - Dave S. (slikkered @ hotmail.com)

"The first night I spoke to my wife she asked, "What did you learn?" My response was, "How little I know." By the end of Sunday, I was amazed at how far my photos had come. I learned to think before you shoot...and after it...and then act on what you know." - Lew C. (lewcolgan @ comcast.net)

"I learned how to look at my subject, lighting and composition in a different light. I learned how to engage your subject in conversation. The highlight of the workshop was the people of Chesapeake City...and of course Steve." - Toshia S. (stengdan @ verizon.net)

"Practical, eye-opening experience. The most important thing I learned was that photography is an opportunity to connect with people. I loved it." - Alaina G. (alainagray @ gmail.com)

"Enjoyable and informative. Appreciate the lecture prior to shooting. Some workshops take you in the field and then explain what you did wrong. I learned how to find great shots where I thought there were none. The workshop was small enough to give everyone personal attention. In these economic times, it would be easy to add more people and sacrifice quality." - Diane C. (dianece @ comcast.net)

"Great Fun. Highlights: wonderful people sharing what works for them...also Steve's humor." - Liz D. (lizdelaney @ mac.com)

"Excellent combination of lecture, field work and critique keeps workshop well rounded. Plenty of individualized attention and hands-on experience. Great Workshop!" - Merilee T. (MarileeTirado @ mac.com)

"Fabulous! The interaction with the town was a great experience. The casual round-table discussions and learning from each other was huge for me." - Reuben H. (reubenh @ comcast.net)

"I had a wonderful time learning and discussing photography with other enthusiasts. Steve brought up a lot of points for seeing from new perspectives. Thanks for such a wonderful learning experience. I had fun." - Blonnie B (dreamscape @ blonnie.com)

"Gave me a great understanding of the things to look for and consideer in photographing people. Will definitely make my photographs in the future more successful and rewarding." - Jennifer B. (jennbergman1 @ yahoo.com)
